1938 Kanto v Islington Corinthians
Kanto v Islington Corinthians - 1938
Islington Corinthians were an English amateur club founded in 1932 by Tom Smith, formerly of Tufnell Park, in order to raise money for local charities. In 1936 the Islington Corinthians were selected to play the Chinese Olympic team in a friendly at Highbury, and this was the catalyst for a 95-game world tour, which spanned the entire 1937-38 football season. During this World Tour, Islington travelled to Japan in 1938 to play a game against Kanto and thus became the first British football team to play in Japan. Kanto easily defeated Islington Corinthians 4-0 in the game.
