The Tokyo International Sports Week in 1963 was used as a dress rehearsal for the Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo the following year.

As part of this a West Germany Amateur team beat a Japan B team 2-1 on 12 October 1963 with goals from Gerhard Neuser and Herbert Bayer and held a Japan A team to a 1-1 draw on 16 October 1963 with a goal from Bernd Kirchner.
