Japan v Borussia MG - 1969

Borussia Monchengladbach of Germany toured Japan in June 1969, playing four games against the Japan National Team. In the first game on 15 June in the Tokyo National Stadium, Borussia MG defeated Japan 3-1. However in the second game on 19 June Japan held Borussia MG to a 1-1 draw. Borussia MG returned to winning ways in the third game on 22 June with a comfortable 2-0 victory. The final game in the Tokyo National Stadium on 24 June saw Borussia MG narrowly defeat Japan 1-0.

The official programme, which covers all four games has 14 x B5 pages (three of which are adverts) and is all in Japanese. The programme begins with an introduction from the Japanese Football Association. There is then an article on Borussia MG followed by two pages listing the Borussia MG squad together with small photos of the players and officials. Details of the Japan National Team are given along with small photos of their players. There then follows an article on German football. Finally there are a couple of pages where the scores and line-ups etc. for the games can be entered.

The medal and tie-pin I have in my collection for this game are really rare and interesting and I would have been presented to one of the players or officials involved in the games.
