Japan v New York Cosmos - 1977

New York Cosmos, including Pele, travelled back to Japan in October 1977 for the second time in two years to play two friendly games in Japan on Pele's farewell tour as a player. The New York Cosmos team also included Franz Beckenbauer and Carlos Alberto. In the first game on 10 September NYC defeated the Japanese champions Furukawa FC 4-2 with two goals from Giorgio Chinaglia and a goal apiece from Pele and Tony Field. In the second game on 14 September NYC defeated the Japan National Team 3-1 with goals from Giorgio Chinaglia, Jadranko Topic and Nelsi Morais in front of 65,000 spectators.
