1977 Japan v South Korea

Japan v South Korea - 1977

Japan drew 0-0 with South Korea in front of just 9,000 spectators in the Yoyoki National Stadium, Tokyo in this Preliminary Qualifying Game for the 1978 World Cup in Argentina. The low crowd reflected the fact that Japan had already been defeated twice by Israel, which was somewhat bizarrely competing in the same Asian Qualifying Group as Japan, making Japan's qualification almost impossible. In the end it was South Korea which went forward to the Final Round of Qualifying, where they could only finish second to Iran who became the Asian representatives.
