The sixth Kirin Cup (Japan Cup) tournament was held in Japan from 29 May to 7 June 1983 and featured Japan, Newcastle United (England), Botafogo (Brazil), Syria and Yamaha (Japan). Again the teams played each other in a single group. Newcastle United defeated Japan 4-0, Yamaha 1-0 and drew with Syria 1-1 and Botafogo 0-0 to top the group and win the 1983 Kirin Cup.

The official 1983 Kirin Cup programme has 34 x A4 pages and is all in Japanese. The programme includes the list of fixtures and details of the competing teams with small photos of each of their players. It has a full page article on Kevin Keegan of Newcastle United together with an A3 sized colour photo of the same player. Finally it has a couple of pages with the results of previous Kirin Cup tournaments.
