1987 Kirin Cup
Kirin Cup 1987
(Japan, Torino, Fluminense, Senegal)
The tenth Kirin Cup tournament was held in Japan from 24 to 31 May 1987 and featured Japan, Fluminense (Brazil), Senegal and Torino (Italy). Torino were a late replacement for another Italian team, Sampdoria. Again all of the teams played each other in a single group, before the top two placed teams played off in a Final. Torino defeated Senegal 3-1, Japan 1-0 and drew with Fluminense 1-1 to top the group, with Fluminense in second place. However in the Final Fluminense defeated Torino 2-0 with goals from Washington and Tato to win the 1987 Kirin Cup.
The official 1987 Kirin Cup programme has 36 x A4 pages and is in Japanese. The programme includes details of the fixtures and the competing teams including small photos of each of their players. The programme was printed before Torino replaced Sampdoria, so it includes details of the Sampdoria team and players - however an extra insert is included with details of Torino and small photos of their players. The programme has colour photos and special features on star players such as Julio Cesar Romero of Fluminense. Finally the programme has details of previous Kirin Cup tournaments.
