1988 Toyota Cup Final
PSV v Nacional
Nacional of Uruguay won their second Toyota Cup with victory over PSV Eindhoven of Holland in front of 62,000 supporters in Tokyo on 11 December 1988. The match finished 1-1 in normal time before a Ronald Koeman penalty and a goal in the last minute of extra time from man of the match Santiago Ostalaza forced a penalty shoot-out. In a dramatic penalty kick shoot-out Lerby and Gerets passed up chances to win the Toyota Cup for PSV before a miss from Van Aerle with the 20th penalty of the shoot-out finally sealed PSV’s fate.
