The 1997 Kirin Cup featured Japan, Croatia and Turkey. In the opening game in Tokyo on 8 June 1997 Japan defeated Croatia 4-3 in front of over 50,000 supporters with goals from Jirtano, Hiroaki Morishima and two goals from Kazuyoshi Miura. In the second game in Sendai on 12 June Croatia and Turkey drew 1-1 with goals from Erceg and Ertugrul for Croatia and Turkey respectively. In the final game in Osaka on 15 June Japan defeated Turkey 1-0 with a goal from Hiroaki Morishima to secure Japan’s third consecutive Kirin Cup triumph.
The official 1997 Kirin Cup programme has 60 x glossy colour A4 pages and is in Japanese. The programme includes the list of fixtures and details of the competing national teams squads with small photos of each of their players. There are special articles on all three national teams and on their star players (with large colour photos) including Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi of Japan, Davor Suker of Croatia and Hakan Sukur of Turkey amongst others.
