The 2006 Kirin Cup featured Japan, Bulgaria and Scotland. In the opening game in Osaka on 9 May 2006 Bulgaria defeated Japan 2-1 with goals from Svetoslav Todorov and a last minute goal from Hristo Yanev. In the second game in Kobe on 11 May Scotland defeated Bulgaria 5-1 with two goals from Kris Boyd on his Scotland debut, a goal from James McFadden and two goals from Chris Burke also on his Scotland debut. In the final game in Saitama on 13 May Scotland held Japan to a 0-0 draw to win the 2006 Kirin Cup.
The official 2006 Kirin Cup programme has 76 x glossy colour A4 pages and apart from some of the introductions in English is all in Japanese. The programme includes the list of fixtures and details of the Japan national team squad with small photos of each of their players. The Bulgaria and Scotland national team squads are also given but without photos of the players. There is an article covering details of every one of Japan's games with Zico as Head Coach.
