The 2016 FIFA Club World Cup tournament was again held in Japan from 8 to 18 December 2016 and featured Atletico Nacional (Colombia), Real Madrid (Spain), Kashima Antlers (Japan), Auckland City (New Zealand), Jeonbuk Hyundai (South Korea), Club America (Mexico) and Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa). Real Madrid defeated Kashima Antlers 4-2 after extra time in an exciting Final in the International Stadium in Yokohama in front of over 68,000 supporters. Benzema gave Real Madrid an early lead before two goals from Shibasaki for Kashima Antlers either side of half time turned the game on its head. A Ronaldo penalty took the game to extra time where Ronaldo scored two more goals to complete his hat trick and win the FIFA Club World Cup for Real Madrid.
